Political Correctness Response

Is there a place for political correctness in contemporary filmmaking?

I think that there is a place for political correctness in contemporary filmmaking- to an extent.  Filmmaking is a form of art, and art is for expression.  If someone feels strongly about something political and/or wants to express a certain point to viewers, then they should have the right (freedom of speech) to express it.  However, I think that there should be limits to this- such as not saying anything that would be offensive.  Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but they should be civil about it.

"You Matter" Project Progress

1) Interview Script:

1) The text of any script you have developed including questions that your actors will respond to. In lieu of a script, explain what the dialogue will encompass and who will deliver it.
1- Do you think that people need a reason to validate that they matter?  Why?
2- What are some reasons that YOU personally think you matter?
3- Name multiple people who would tell you that you matter if you were to say that you don't.
4- What are some things that OTHERS have said about you/to you on why you matter and/or are a good person?  (Positive things that people have said about you/to you)
5- How would people who care about you be effected if they lost you because you thought you and your life didn't matter?
6- What would you, or anyone, lose if they were to end their own life?

2) If your project is narrated, attach the text of the narration and explain the relationship of the narrator to the project.
2) The narration in this film will be spoken aloud by me.  At the end of the film, I will briefly summarize to the camera the point I am trying to get across.  This will not be on text- it will be said aloud and you will see me as I am talking.

3) List the elements that will make up your project: Photos, old video, current video (shot specifically for the project), graphical slides, textual slides, animation, etc.
3) Text slides, silent footage with music in the background, an interview, footage of me talking to the camera

4) List the music that will make up your score, include a link(s) to the music.
4) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrUlVuyKN7I

5) List what you have accomplished so far (how you have spent the last several class periods).
5) My film is planned all the way through, and I will be filming most of it on this Thursday and the following weekend.

6) List anything that you have digitized, downloaded, photographed or filmed to be incorporated into your project.
6) The majority of the film will be recently-taken film, not anything downloaded or any pictures inserted. (Music is the only thing that will be downloaded) And there will be text slides across the screen.

7) Write a brief synopsis of your video.  Explain the point of view, the plot line, whether it is being played as a parody or straight, who the characters are and if there are any plot twists. Complete the following statement: The premise of my video is that I matter because:
7) Brief synopsis:
(After the title slide) The film will begin (no audio to the footage, so music will play in the background) with a boy who is contemplating suicide, this will be evident by the pills he is holding in his hand.  He then goes to school, and overhears two students talking in an interview about why people matter.  He relates to some of what is said and is effected by what he hears.  He then goes home and flushes the pills.  This shows that you can make a difference on anyone, even if you may not even know it.  This also shows that unexpected, hopeful things can happen at any moment- you never know what positive things could happen/what positive effects you could have on people.  At the end of the film, I will talk to the camera and briefly summarize the point that I am trying to get across.  Credits will roll with music to end the film.

The premise of my video is that I matter because:
You don't need a reason to justify that you matter, although there are always many reasons there.  Every human being matters.  We are all unique.  We all have things that make us happy, or potential to make us happy.  We all have people we care about, and people who care about us.  We all have a purpose.  We all can achieve amazing things, no matter what they may be.  Every human being is capable of something, and many things.  Some take longer to figure out what those things may be, but they are always there...
